Coronavirus has had us all go through some fairly traumatic experiences. I felt it was my duty to document this in a way that only a writer would think of. So here is a Covid-19 inspired poem for your enjoyment. I hope you all find the peace among the hard days. The Sticky Fingers of Summer by Katriona MacMillan It is difficult to describe an absence. The pause of a moment, stretching off down the shady path of the unknown like a one-way-ticket to Route 66. No more than a hiccup in the Wheel of Fortune, as it breaks free to roll off downhill – with us all held hostage inside… and all of us too afraid to scream. I think of it most when I pass by the swing park and the kids are missing. The swings are still or sway in warm lockdown winds, winds that won’t be warm when we get out there again because That’s Just How It Is. The tarmac melts underfoot. The metal on the slide is hot to the touch… but there are no kids in the swing parks. No kids roasting their fi...

First Reviews of the Online Content Writer's Handbook!

Image
I had a wonderful review come back this week from the lovely Laura. For privacy reasons I will leave out her full name. She has my eternal thanks for volunteering to review me! I have added in a few photos to make it a blog-worthy event but, I have to be honest here, she smashed it out of the water. She sent a review of how to write online content, in online content writing format. If that's not 100% commitment, I don't know what is. Without further ado, here is the first non-Amazon (thanks Helen!) review of The Online Content Writer's Handbook . I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did! " Writing a review of “The content writer’s handbook” using the tools of said book “The content writers handbook” offers information to readers about writing reviews, blogs, web content and other online formats. Expectations Very occasionally I take the time to sit down and write, mainly reflective accounts as a health care professional.   I’d looked into the...

How To Hire an Online Content Writer

Image
Today's topic is how you should, and should not, go about hiring an online conte nt writer. This has been fuelled by an 8 hour writing shift followed by a last minute proposal from a client I don't know. This client wants me to write NATURALLY using RESEARCHED content derived from their keyword account - and I got mad. I've never met this person before, yet they have assumed that using capital letters is necessary because I'm clearly unable to follow instructions written normally. I've never met this person before, yet they have just given me the login details for their keyword app. I've never met this person before, but they went on to tell me that they needed it done overnight. And I got mad. I have four clients today who went in the book last Friday. I got through them all but that's beside the point... they waited in line until I was ready to take them. This dude was the equivalent of Karen, in her yoga pants and pumps, skipping to the front ...

Coronavirus - How to work from home without losing your *hit

Image
Working from Home like a Boss Hi, I'm Katriona, and I have been working from home since October... before the Coronavirus made it cool. What I have learned from this whole experience is that it drives you insane. Everyone thinks they want to work from home - I was certain of it. I traded jobs, got a new career and packed in kitchen work because I was so sure of it. Literally 2 weeks into not seeing another living soul except my dog, never leaving the house, and having no reason to do my makeup in the morning, and I was cracking up. I went ahead and made provisions for myself to make sure I didn't lose it entirely. So here is how to work from home and still be productive, without wanting to throw the laptop out the window. Working From Home is All About Boundaries If you don't get up early enough, you won't get everything done that you need to. Rule Number 1 of working from home is therefore all about boundaries. Get up early enough that you s...
